Last week I finished a two part series answering the question “Is Jesus an Idol?” In part two I started to address publicly what many of you already are aware of. That is the great falling away of those that at one point may have truthfully but today falsely proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Many of these preachers are a part of what’s known as the Word of Faith movement (WOF). It’s my opinion that the majority of megachurches (1000+ members) and those that would aspire to be would likely fall into WOF albeit in varying degrees. After much prayer and consideration I feel it best to use names only when necessary. My reason for this is simple. It’s easy to get caught up researching and poking fun at others to validate a point and miss the reason for pointing it out in the first place. Everybody now is exposing someone else yet none of us (hidden in Christ) would want our lives in total exposed. Some would say of course not but we aren’t exposing things done in secret. To which I would reply I agree anything done in public is most certainly subject to public criticism. However from what I’ve seen the exposing is not restore a brother in to proper fellowship but rather that he be excommunicated along with anything he has ever preached. Case in point the racist Apostle Peter was rebuked for his error by the Apostle Paul. Consider this do you think Peter became racist after He through the Holy Spirit in Jesus Name healed the lame man? Was Peter wrong for his preference of Jews over the Gentile? Absolutely! Was Paul right to correct him publicly? Absolutely! I think however the motivation of many is not correction in love. So as to not get lumped into the masses that expose for self-promotion or zeal, I will for the most part refrain from mentioning names. Because behind every action is a motive I filter the actions of others (and myself) through this understanding.
So as you do your own research I encourage you to do the same. The exposers use short clip segmented with thought influencing comments to cause us to consider the motivations of the exposed. Most of us however never consider the motivation of the exposer. My about page gives in short my motivation and if you read my posts or comments on the posts of others you should be able to see a pattern. My goal is to promote true life through Jesus Christ.
So if Christ died for all and all haven’t received Christ then daily I consider the reasons WHY! Why would anyone choose something other than Christ? So let’s back up and consider. What if you began in Heaven? What if like Adam & Eve you were able to experience direct personal fellowship with the God of creation? Could you imagine no sickness, no lack, no death? What more could you ask for? Really think about this, what else WOULD you ask for? Lucifer had the unique opportunity of being extremely close to God. But for him close just wasn’t good enough he wanted to be like the Most High. Now this type of imitation wasn’t the highest form of flattery as they say. As I see it God viewed it as insolence that would lead to rebellion and ultimately an age old revolt. Without moving off his throne God commanded Michael to remove Satan and his angels from Heaven and it was so. So after being forced from Heaven with all those angels he deceived, Satan picks up where he left off in Heaven trying to be like God. If there is an authority it must be challenged if it is to be replaced. So through the physical serpent Satan spoke and said to Eve “Did God Really say?” Notice that Satan at the beginning didn’t challenge the authority of God because by saying “Eloyhym” he was acknowledging his authority as the one true God. He didn’t even challenge her relationship with God that is to say God’s relevance in her life. He immediately challenged Eve’s comprehension of God’s word. Comprehension combines knowledge and understanding. Upon verifying her knowing and understanding God’s Word (commandment) he introduced doubt attacking her faith in God. This doubt then placed a wedge in the her relationship with God and now God that is to say His love, His Protection and Provision are thus questioned.
So what does this mean for us today? Well for one it shows the craftiness of Satan. It reminds us of the spiritual war that we are in. It also points to a distinction that separates Eve from (in my opinion) the vast majority believers today. Eve knew the word of the Lord concerning her. I know I know, she only had one verse in her bible and we have 1189 chapters but she with thorough understanding of the commandment was still deceived. With access to bibles in multiple versions many are ignorant of principles pertinent to our faith. Because believers as a whole are more versed in themes and concepts preached than the scripture itself we readily accept teachings contrary to the bible by those that have mass approval. Brother and sisters we must contend for the faith, Know the TRUTH, Live the TRUTH and share the TRUTH. Truly our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Pursue Christ’s passion to seek and to save that which is lost.
