Head of Household?

Today’s post is addressing an issue I have seen and heard of from others in the church.  It is the issue of who is the head of the house.  Naturally, one would think that the husband would be the head, just as Ephesians 5:23 says he is.  Sadly, many households and even churches find themselves out of order with the woman taken the leadership role.

I will says that no matter how socially acceptable this is, it is still wrong in the eyes of God.  Culturally, women have been taught to be more independent of any man so she could be prepared in case he decided to leave.  This dominant attitude has ran its course through many families and even churches.

See, the bible says in Ephesians 5:22 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”  If you notice the language, it was commanded as an act of obedience to God.  I heard one pastor say that in order for a woman to submit, a man must give her something to submit to.

I would have to say that such a statement is fine socially because it gives any wife a reason to justify her lack of submission.  However, such a statement is not correct biblically.  The bible didn’t says Husbands, give your wife something to submit to and she will.  It did says, Wives submit!

The last statement I have is that submission has been seen as a sign of weakness for many women so they avoid it.  This is because it is part of a woman’s make up to try and rule over her husband because of what Eve did in the garden.

In part 2 later today, I will explain what happened in the garden so that it is clear as to the source of the problem and what you can do about it.

Till then,

Stay On Guard.

About Building & Guarding Families

I am a 36 yr old, married father of 3 children. I have had relationship with God for the last 15 years, but it wasn't until I started my own family that I understood why God made me different. A passion grew in me for building and guarding my family from the failures of those that went before me. I want to share that passion and the wisdom I accumulated over the years to help others to strengthen their families and guide their children the way God intended.

  1. Great post Donnell! This isn’t popular nonetheless accurate as to what the Bible clears speaks concerning the marriage relationship. It’s funny to me how that the preachers that would declare by “revelation” or “wisdom” something so contrary to the Bible with the bible such as the “husband ought to give his wife something to submit to” if he’s to expect her to submit. I wonder those preachers with a building packed 70% women could so boldly apply that revelation and say to the husband love your wife as Christ loves the church when she becomes lovable! Hah there goes the tithe and offering.
