Last week we touched on how Satan and the demonic used things “such as common to man” to deceive and ultimately turn our hearts away from God.
I want to repeat the ultimate goal of Satan is to receive worship that belongs to God. He’s happy however if worship is directed anywhere except God including if we worship our thoughts, ideas or anyone else.
So we are enticed with natural things by a spirit being. Let’s go back to Eden the garden of God. It can be argued that Eve wasn’t drawn by the beauty of the serpent but rather the beauty of the fruit (I almost said Apple laugh out loud) perhaps it was the smell or the color that looked so inviting.
It could have been the mystery of the unknown. Maybe the intrigue of the forbidden beckoned Eve so seductively that she had to come close enough that she could taste it. What do you think that it was? What would it have been for you? I guarantee you that the devil knows, even if you don’t, or are unwilling to admit it.
So politicians through great speeches cause our belief in the goodness of man to awaken. The desire to speak out against social injustice stirs our emotion so much that action toward a cause is the only recourse.
When we from our heart, hear the conviction of our heart, from the mouth of another, something within us resonates and before you know it we say to them loudly Amen, Yeah etc.
We say I agree and I’m willing to state this publicly before witnesses. To relieve the emotional tension we say to the leader “how can we do this?” People then unite behind a cause. Gladly we join with others to do that which is right in our own eyes and a movement begins.
No prayer! No acknowledgment of God to see if this should be our course of action. We don’t even consider referencing the Scriptures to see what they have to say about a particular topic.
So subtly the serpent speaks what we want to hear he “says the forbidden is yours for the taking”! He caters to the ego, he sounds like a “yes man” validating that we should have whatever we want, and there’s no reason why we need to consult anybody about our decisions especially those in authority over us or God.
This isn’t a knock just on politicians I’m sure many begin with a sincere heart and well meaning intentions. This same spirit manifests through organized religion, educational institutions and through the creation and execution of governmental systems.
What a bold overarching generalization you might say, to which I would reply “It is what it is.” By the way that’s what the comment section is for anyway.
Religion from the begin was formed by man to address the greatest questions that cross the mind of all humans. There are 3 in particular 1) Where did we come from? 2) What is the meaning of life? 3) What happens after death? The difference between what we believe and every other religion (using the term loosely) is “Jesus”! Jesus is God incarnate redeeming mankind unto himself because of His love.
Our relationship with God is based on what He has done for us and not what we do for him. Because God created us unique our relationship with Him is individual and personal based on His perfect knowledge of us. Educational institutions try to take a rational or logical approach to address those same questions. They appeal to our intellect and ask us to look within to find what’s right for us without imposing harm on others.
Lastly through government systems mankind determines what’s right and wrong. If done according to the legally prescribed manner a doctor can commit infanticide without it being called murder. But if the same person slit the throat of a pregnant woman not doing any harm to the child he would be charged with the murder of both the deceased mother and child. Why is this you might ask, it is because man has determined without the consent of God what is right. Subtly the serpent says God wants to hold you back from your potential to determine right and wrong.
Next week I intend to explore the other two major categories that I believe the serpent is speaking through societal norms today 1) Idolization of Celebrities 2) Social media.
Until then, Grace and Truth
